The automation layer: REXX from fundamentals to PARSE mastery, host commands, dataset I/O, ISPF panels and edit macros — the tools operators and developers actually script with.
Cohort / corporate first self-paced release follows recording
Every session ends in a lab on your own environment. Labs are machine-checked against expected outputs — you and your L&D team always know exactly where you stand.
Clauses, variables, arithmetic, comparisons; DO, IF, SELECT; error trapping with SIGNAL ON.
LAB First execs.
Built-in functions; internal and external routines; ADDRESS TSO and ISPEXEC; capturing output with OUTTRAP.
LAB Script a TSO workflow.
Compound variables, PUSH/QUEUE/PULL, when to use which.
LAB Data-shuffling drills.
EXECIO patterns; PARSE templates that turn spool and reports into data.
LAB Parse real job output into a summary.
Panels, dialog variables, tables; edit macros that fix code at scale; a CLIST literacy unit; REXX in batch.
LAB A dedup edit macro, then the capstone: panel-driven operator utility.
Your seat is a private, full z/OS-compatible environment with TSO/E REXX, ISPF dialogs and edit macros in the browser — nothing to install, snapshot and reset per exercise. By the end of the course the lab harness will have verified: an operator utility with panel front-end and a working edit macro per student.
